About Us

"a base from which all kinds of family services can operate"

Abingdon Carousel is a charity organisation which re-opened the Children's Centre in South Abingdon in September. The Abingdon Carousel Family Centre provides a base from which all kinds of family services can operate, both our own and those provided by other organisations like the NHS. The centre will be for the use of all Abingdon residents.

Abingdon Carousel is based at the former South Abingdon Children's Centre which was closed by the County Council in 2016. A small community group was formed, determined to bring the centre back into use, and began to raise funding and put together plans for a multi-use centre that supports families with young children across Abingdon. Abingdon Carousel became a charity (CIO) in 2017.

After various unworkable offers were put forward, a building-share with Caldecott School finally made financial sense and we were able to start lease negotiations. On 1st August 2018 we were able to sign our lease and we began to run services in September 2018.

Our Trustees are Cllr Samantha Bowring, Penny Clover, Cllr Margaret Crick, James Fawcett, Mark Rusher, Ruth Hawkins, Lesley Legge, Sharron Jenkinson and the Chair of Trustees is Heather Brown. Day to day running of the centre is handled by the Staff Team.
